Solomon’s Castle
Ona, Florida

“A one-of-a-kind attraction” Located in the “quieter” part of Florida

After reading 10 pages of positive reviews, Day Trippin’ with Patti & Vicky decided to “take the plunge” (no pun intended) and organize a trip to one of Florida’s MOST unique attractions. Artist, Howard Solomon, began building his “dream castle” in 1974 out of aluminum printing plates that were being discarded by the local newspaper. He even made his own stained-glass windows! Years later, the ever-evolving, gleaming 3-story castle covers 12,000 sq. ft. including the courtyard filled with sculptures made from discarded automotive parts and a 60-ft. replica of a 16th century Portuguese galleon that serves as the Boat-on-the-Moat restaurant (which I hear serves very good food). Solomon was known for his ever ongoing puns during this tours; he has since passed away, but the tour guides still use his script. Decorated with more than 80 interpretive stained glass windows and countless metal sculptures, Solomon’s Castle is a day long delight hidden away in the lush Florida woodlands.

Cost: $100 pp includes full day at the Castle.
